CUNA Councils locate and award their 3,000th memberMilestone member and her credit union receive
scholarship, complimentary council memberships MADISON, Wis. –The CUNA Councils recently announced that it successfully located its milestone 3,000th member and awarded her with a $3,000 professional development scholarship and her credit union with a complimentary 2005 membership for each council.
Diana Counts, director of marketing at Beach Municipal FCU in Virginia Beach, Va., and lucky member number 3,000, joined the CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council on March 23 on the recommendation of Kimberly Shore, Beach Municipal’s CEO. Shore recommended the council as “a great resource for networking and sharing of information.” The scholarship for Counts and complimentary membership for her credit union in each of the six councils - CUNA CFO Council; CUNA HR and Training & Development Council; CUNA Lending Council; CUNA Marketing & Business Development Council; CUNA Operations, Sales & Service Council; and the CUNA Technology Council - were seen as another way to celebrate the Councils’ ongoing successes and increasing membership. “We wanted to celebrate this significant achievement with a special award for both the member and their credit union,” said CUNA Council Director David Rohn, who also noted that “the Councils have grown from 2,200 members just two years ago to today’s historic high.” Beach Municipal, located in Virginia Beach, VA has $96 million in assets and 41 employees.
“I was thrilled to be able to award Diana with this award,” remarked Rohn, “especially because it was clear that her CEO understood the value of leveraging Council resources and actively encouraged staff to join. It is entirely appropriate that the member that put us over the top came from the Marketing and Business Development Council, since that is the group that helped launch the councils in 1994.” Rohn noted that as of May 9 th, memberships had already climbed to 3,200 members across the country. He attributed the continued growth to the fact that Councils are discipline and staff focused; their programs are created for and by credit union executives; and that the Councils are national in scope.
