FTC Extends the Use of E-mail for Obtaining Consents Under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection ActCUNA May 11, 2005
The FTC has extended a temporary provision in the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) that allows website operators to obtain parental consent by e-mail when they collect information from children that is used only for internal purposes. COPPA governs the online collection of personal information from children under the age of 13. The temporary provision has been extended until the FTC completes its required review of the COPPA rules in their entirety. Attached is CUNA's Final Analysis with additional information.
